The Center for Relationship Wellness offers a number of educational events to members of the community. They are designed to enhance understanding about marriage, parenting or other interpersonal relationships.

Seminars are brief (less than 90 minutes) educational experiences that are usually offered free of charge to the participants. Marital Happiness, a short course

This 45 to 90 minute seminar provides an introduction to the seven levels of the Sound Relationship House© and offers suggestions on ways for a couple to strengthen their friendship system. It is ideal for a couple’s after dinner program or a Sunday school class.


The Next Time Around

All marriages face struggles, but for those who have been married before, the challenges are even more numerous. Research shows that divorce rates are at least 10% higher for those who are in their second (or more) marriage. This seminar helps those couples understand and deal with the unique problems of the remarried, from stepchildren to ex-spouses to baggage from the past.


Growing Great Kids – An Introduction

Modern research points to the essential skills of emotional intelligence for success in life. This seminar is an introduction to the concept of Emotion Coaching for parents of any aged children. It is based on John Gottman’s excellent book Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child.

Workshops are in-depth educational experiences designed to provide insight and tools which can help the participants dramatically change their lives and relationships.

The Art and Science of Love

The Art & Science of Love Workshop was designed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman over 11 years ago. Since that time thousands of couples have found help and growth in their relationships through this two day experience.

The Art & Science of Love Workshop is designed to strengthen relationships through engaging presentations and experiential activities. It provides participants with insights and tools to improve both good and distressed relationships. Any and all couples are invited to attend.

Don and Carrie Cole have been trained and certified by the Gottmans as leaders for The Art & Science of Love Workshop. They, along with their co-presenter Liliane Nahas M.Ed. LPC, LMFT will be bringing the workshop to Houston on September 20-21, 2008 and Febrary 21-22, 2009. Click here for more information and to register for the workshop.

Bringing Baby Home - A Workshop for Pregnant Couples and Parents of Infants and Toddlers

Learn parenting and relationship Skills that will last a lifetime. Prepare yourself for life with your baby and discover how to be the best parenting team possible. Create a caring and nurturing atmosphere in your home and learn to cope with conflict in a positive way. This workshop, developed by renowned relationship experts, Drs. John and Julie Gottman, helps to prepare you for the most important and rewarding job you will ever have, raising a child.

  • Strengthen your friendship, intimacy and conflict regulation skills
  • Interact with your baby in a positive way
  • Keep both parents involved

Getting Off to a Great Start – A Premarital Experience

This 4 hour workshop uses scientifically verified instruments to help each couple understand the strengths and challenges they face in their relationships. The workshop teaches the couple the essentials of the Sound Relationship House© and gives specific suggestions on how to keep the friendship system strong. Conflict management skills which really work will also be addressed.

Growing Great Kids – Full Workshop

Parents of children of all ages can benefit from this six hour workshop on Emotion Coaching. We coach our children in all sorts of skills and activities from soccer to algebra, but sometimes we overlook the benefits of helping our children deal with their emotions. Parents will learn:

• The essential skills of emotion coaching
• What emotional intelligence is and why it matters
• How to help our children find their own solutions to problems

Living as God’s Family

This 12 hour workshop, based on the work of Dr. John Gottman, has been developed by Don and Carrie Cole to help members of congregations of all faiths strengthen their relationships with one another. Participants will engage in discussion and experiences to help them learn:

• How to enhance relationships within the congregation
• The essential skills for regulating conflict
• How to discover the deeper meaning which often underlies conflict
• How to develop a greater sense of shared identity and purpose.
